Water research

On this page we list a very small selection of our projects illustrating our services and capabilities. KWD has completed numerous groundwater exploration & development projects (production wells, test wells, monitoring wells), well rehabilitation projects, technical assessments and investigations, water quantity and quality assessments, and onsite sewerage system design.

KWD strength is the continuous involvement of our project hydrogeologist and engineer in all stages of a project (planning, field work, design phase, technical reporting).

Project

Powerhouse Springs Well Field New Production Well, District of Squamish, BC

Our Role

Project hydrogeological engineer; hydrogeological investigation, production well design, well & aquifer testing and analysis, technical assessment. The well withdraws water from the Ring Creek Aquifer

Project

Lynden & Autumn Well Fields New Production Wells (Abbotsford-Sumas Aquifer), Clearbrook Waterworks District, BC

Our Role

Project manager, hydrogeological engineer; hydrogeological investigation, production well design (4 wells), well & aquifer testing and analysis, technical assessments; coordination of mechanical / electrical / civil engineering work & commissioning of the wells

Project

Ring Creek Aquifer Groundwater Monitoring Well Construction, District of Squamish, BC

Our Role

Project hydrogeological engineer: design & coordination; hydrogeological investigation. Glacio-fluvial aquifer formation is preceded by (fractured and water bearing) dacite lava flow formation. The monitoring well is included in the Provincial Groundwater Observation Wells Network

Project

Design & Implementation of a Groundwater Monitoring Program, Hatzic Prairie Aquifer, Fraser Valley Regional District, BC

Our Role

Project Hydrogeologist;  program design, implementation and analysis. The program was initiated in response to concerns expressed by members of the community regarding groundwater levels & water use

Project

Natural Asset Monitoring and Management Program(an on-going program), Clearbrook Waterworks District, BC

Our Role

Program hydrogeologist & coordinator; implementation of a groundwater monitoring and management program which has evolved over time into a comprehensive program. Pivotal to the effectiveness of this program is timely information sharing on groundwater dynamics and state of the infrastructure (production wells) with the client. KWD produces detailed review reports on an annual basis (since 2010)

Project

Technical Assessment for New Groundwater Supply Source, Fair Harbour BC, Private Company, Campbell River, BC

Our Role

Project Hydrogeologist; hydrogeological investigation, aquifer testing and analysis, technical assessment (two water supply wells completed in volcanic bedrock formation). Its remote location on the Kyuquot Sound (northwestern Vancouver Island) made this project a unique experience

Project

Hydrogeological Assessment for Proposed Subdivision, Parksville, BC

Our Role

Project Hydrogeologist; hydrogeological assessment, well & aquifer testing and analysis for three water supply wells (flowing artesian wells – under control), completed in a Quadra sand aquifer

Project

Hydrogeological Investigation (feasibility reduced setback onsite sewerage system), privately-owned property, Mission, BC

Our Role

Project hydrogeologist; hydrogeological investigation for evaluating the feasibility of permitting a reduced setback between the proposed Type 3 onsite septic treatment and dispersal system and a newly drilled domestic water supply well. KWD coordinated various construction work for this property (related to the well and septic system)

Project

New water supply source and on-site sewerage system design for meeting municipal regulatory requirements (building permit), privately-owned property, Maple Ridge, BC

Our Role

Project hydrogeologist; water quantity & quality assessment; on-site sewerage system design and inspection; coordination of the construction work related to the well construction & related work, and onsite sewerage system construction

Project

Aquifer study completed in support of aquifer protection, Clearbrook Waterworks District, BC.

Our Role

Project hydrogeologist; aquifer study (hydrogeology, aquifer vulnerability, water use, water quality, capture zone analysis and inventory of potential sources of contamination)

Project

Well Rehabilitation Powerhouse Springs Well Field, District of Squamish, BC.

Our Role

Project hydrogeologist; hydrogeological services in support of the completion of the rehabilitation of two production wells: program design, preliminary investigation, design of pumping tests, hydraulic performance assessments, review of downhole video inspections

Project

Groundwater Seepage Analysis for a Multi-Family Residential Development, private company, Abbotsford, BC

Our Role

Project Hydrogeologist; design and coordination of the drilling & testing of monitoring wells, hydrogeological assessment, groundwater seepage analysis

Project

Stormwater Management Plan, Parksville, BC, privately-owned commercial property

Our Role

Project Engineer; preparing of a stormwater management plan for a commercial property in accordance with runoff control standards of the applicable bylaw (Regional District of Nanaimo)

Project

Water Quantity & Potability Assessment for a Proposed Development (Surface Water Source), privately-owned property (“Best Point area”), North Vancouver, BC

Our Role

Project Hydrologist; review of the area hydrology, geology, water allocation (Fokine Brook), and existing water supply provision, water quantity assessment, water quality review
